2017: Looking Forward
We’ve done an awful lot of looking back during the past couple of weeks, but now that we’ve flipped the calendar over to 2017, it’s time to start looking forward.
So here’s a round-up of a few of the events that we’re most jazzed about during the first half of the new year:
FRIDAY (JANUARY 6)
CONCERT: Alejandro Escovedo & the Burn Something Beautiful Band @ Club Helsinki, Hudson. The all-star band features Peter Buck of R.E.M., Scott McCaughey of Young Fresh Fellows, Kurt Block of Fastbacks and Linda Pitmon of the Baseball Project. With the Minus 5. 9pm. $25 & $30.
MUSIC: The CD release celebration for Suite Lee: An Original Music Tribute To Pianist Lee Shaw, the new album by Joe Barna & the Sketches of Influence @ the Stockade Inn, Schenectady. 7pm. FREE.
ART/GRAND OPENING: The grand opening/opening reception for the Albany Center Gallery’s new home and the annual Members’ Show featuring the art of more than 175 regional artists. 5-9pm. FREE.
GRAND OPENING: Rivers Casino opens in Schenectady.
BOOK PUBLICATION: “I Am Flying into Myself: Selected Poems, 1960-2014” by Bill Knott.
CD RELEASE: Rhiannon Giddens’ new album, Freedom Highway.
CONCERT: Dirty Dozen Brass Band headline Night One of the Bridge Jazz Festival at the Troy Savings Bank Music Hall, Troy. With Eldar. 7:30pm. $28, $36 & $42.
GRAND OPENING: Albany Capital Center opens.
