COMIN’ SOON: New Concert Announcements

Nine-time Grammy Award-winning singer-songewriter Norah Jones steps into the spotlight at the Bardavon Theater in Poughkeepsie at 8pm on Monday, November 28 in support of her upcoming album, Day Breaks. Priced from $58-$73, tickets go on sale to the general public at 11am on Friday (August 12).
CANCELLED: Super soul singer Charles Bradley has been forced to cancel several of his upcoming concerts – including the BSP Lounge in Kingston on Friday (August 12) and MASS MoCA in North Adams on Saturday (August 13) – while he recuperates from unexpected minor medical surgery.
Fantastic Negrito returns to Greater Nippertown for a concert at the Cohoes Music Hall at 8pm on Thursday, October 13. The grand prize winner of NPR’s inaugural Tiny Desk Concert Contest, Fantastic Negrito (aka, Xavier Dphrepaulezz) made his Albany debut last month opening for Chris Cornell at the Palace Theatre. Tickets for his Cohoes concert are priced at $26 & $32 and will go on sale to the general public at 10am on Friday (August 12).

Dirty Heads are headed back to the Upstate Concert Hall in Clifton Park on Saturday, October 22 with support acts New Beat Fund and RDGLDGRN kicking off the evening’s festivities at 8pm. Tickets are $23 in advance; $25 at the door. Also new on the UCH calendar, Crown the Empire teams up with Bless the Fall, New Years Day, Too Close to Touch and Light Up the Sky at 6:30pm on Saturday, November 19. Priced at $18 in advance, tickets go on sale at 10am on Friday (August 12).
IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: The Troy Savings Bank Music Hall announced two new concerts – Christian singer Sandi Patty and Bickram Ghosh’s Drums of India.
The Bearsville Theater in Woodstock welcomes the return of New Orleans’ Tuba Skinny at 8pm on Wednesday, September 7. Tickets are $12 in advance; $15 at the door. And singer-songwriter Josh Ritter takes over the stage at 8pm on Saturday, November 12. Tickets are on sale now priced at $35 & $40; $45 Gold Circle.
IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: The Bad Plus – the eclectic jazz band that collaborated with saxman Joshua Redman for several Greater Nippertown concerts last year – return to their trio format at The Egg in support of their upcoming album, It’s Hard, due for release at the end of the month. Tickets go on sale to the general public at 11am on Friday (August 12).
Nothing But Thieves will take the stage at Lucky Strike Social’s Jupiter Hall in Guilderland for a free concert at 8pm on Thursday, October 20.
IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: MASS MoCA’s newly announced fall schedule of concerts includes Dinosaur Jr., Jena Friedman, Peter Salett, Benjamin Clementine, Helga Davis, Big Thief, Eisa Davis and the Magnetic Fields.
Not only is Jack DeJohnette one of the world’s great jazz drummers, but he’s also an accomplished pianist and composer. DeJohnette will be serving up a solo piano concert at the Byrdcliffe Barn in Woodstock at 8pm on Saturday (August 13) as a fundraiser for the Byrdcliffe Guild. Tickets are $50, which include one drink.
IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: It’s a Louisiana double-header at The Egg as Buckwheat Zydeco and Marcia Ball share the stage just a week and a half before Mardi Gras.
CANCELLED: Gregg Allman – who was slated to co-headline with ZZ Top at the Times Union Center on Wednesday, October 24 – has been forced to cancel the first leg of his tour (including the Albany date) due to serious health issues. Then a few days later the rest of the concert – featuring ZZ Top and Social Distortion’s Jonny Two Bags – was cancelled as well.
Two more new shows have been announced for the Van Dyck in Schenectady. The Bird Dogs – featuring brothers Dylan & Zachary Zmed (sons of “T.J. Hooker” star Adrian Zmed) – pay tribute to the music of the Everly Brothers with performances at 7 & 9pm on Friday, October 21. Tickets are $15 in advance; $18 at the door. And the California Guitar Trio – featuring Bert Lams, Hideyo Moriya and Paul Richards – returns for a pair of shows at 6:30 & 8:30pm on Saturday, October 22. Tickets are $22 in advance; $26 at the door.
IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: Guitarslinger Warren Haynes is scheduled to lead Gov’t Mule into Albany’s Palace Theatre. Tickets go on sale to the general public at 10am on Friday.
IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: The new Levitt AMP North Adams Music Series at Colegrove Park in North Adams will present 10 free concerts in the coming weeks, including Tinsley Ellis, M Shanghai, Bella’s Bartok, Wild Adriatic, Peter Mulvey, Seratones, the Adam Ezra Group, Olive Tiger, the DuPont Brothers and Caitlin Canty.
