Congrats to Blues Queen Shemekia Copeland
Howlin’ blues/R&B singing sensation Shemekia Copeland won the Blues Music Award for Contemporary Blues Female Artist of the Year recently at the 37th Annual Blues Music Awards, held in Memphis at the Cook Convention Center. It was Copeland’s ninth Blues Music Award overall and her fifth in this category. Throughout her career, she has received a total of 34 nominations.
Copeland – who is slated to perform at the Freihofer’s Saratoga Jazz Festival at the Saratoga Performing Arts Center on Saturday (June 25) – also received a Grammy nomination in the Best Blues Album category for her latest album, Outskirts Of Love.
The prestigious United Kingdom magazine, The Blues, named Outskirts of Love the 2015 Album of the Year, and in the magazine’s review, Rev. Keith Gordon wrote, “Shemekia Copeland is one of the best singers performing today. A rich blend of blues, soul and roots-rock that will astound the casual listener while rewarding Copeland’s longtime fans. Pure joy.”
And the accolades continue to roll in…
Last week Copeland was nominated for two more awards from Living Blues magazine – Female Blues Artist of the Year and the prestigious Best Live Performer. The general public is invited to cast their votes in the online voting by the deadline of Friday, July 15. Winners will be announced in August.
