COMIN’ SOON: New Concert Announcements

The Hangar On the Hudson in Troy welcomes back the terrific Texas troubadour Joe Ely on Friday, July 22 in support of his latest album Panhandle Rambler. Opening the show 8pm will be the Cactus Blossoms. Tickets are on sale now, priced at $25 in advance; $30 at the door. Also new on the Hangar’s calendar is the Brooklyn-based band Big Thief in support of their debut album Masterpiece at 8pm on Thursday, August 4.

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: Four-time Grammy Award-winning bassist-vocalist-composer Esperanza Spalding takes over Putnam Den in Saratoga Springs for a benefit concert for the Orchard Project. Also, if you’re looking for laughs, comedian-actors Kathy Najimy and Mo Gaffney are also headed into Putnam Den later this week.

Best Coast – featuring Bethany Cosentino and Bobb Bruno – makes a tour stop at the Upstate Concert Hall in Clifton Park at 8pm on Saturday, July 31 in support of their new album, California Nights. Tickets go on sale at 10am on Friday (June 17), priced at $20 in advance; $22 at the door. Additional new concert announcements for Upstate Concert Hall include Blue October at 8pm on Sunday, October 16 ($25 in advance; $28 at the door) and Highly Suspect at 8pm on Saturday, November 12 (on sale at 10am on Friday, $10.03 for the first 103 tickets sold; $15 in advance thereafter; $18 at the door).

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: Led by Tom Verlaine, art-punk pioneers Television are slated to invade BSP Lounge in Kingston. Tickets are on sale now, priced at $40 in advance; $48 at the door.

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: The line-up of bands have been announced for the second annual Speed of Sound Festival at the Dutchess County Airport in Wappingers Falls, including the Lumineers, Simone Felice, Rayland Baxter, Swear and Shake, Nicole Atkins and Fiction of the Future. Tickets go on sale on Saturday (June 18).

In Hudson, Club Helsinki welcomes the Devon Allman Band at 8pm on Tuesday, July 19 ($20 in advance; $25 at the door) and the DuPont Brothers are 8pm on Wednesday, August 10 ($TBA).

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: Sublime vocalist Rachael Price leads Lake Street Dive into the Troy Savings Bank Music Hall this fall in support of the band’s new album Side Pony. Priced at $30, tickets go on sale to the general public on Friday (June 17).

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: Grammy nominated singer-songwriter Michelle Shocked returns to the spotlight with a three-concert residency at Putnam Den in Saratoga Springs, each of which will feature one of her acclaimed Mercury Records albums – Short Sharp Shocked, Captain Swing and Arkansas Traveler – in their entirety.

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: The Lucky Strike Social Club opened at Crossgates Mall in Guilderland last week, and their first big show has been announced – an all-ages concert by Grammy-nominated pop singer Charlie Puth. Opening the concert will be Timeflies. Tickets are currently on sale priced at $26 in advance; $28 at the door.

At BSP Lounge in Kingston, super soul singer Charles Bradley & His Extraordinaires are headed into the Back Room Theater at 8pm on Friday, August 12. Tickets are on sale now, priced at $25 in advance; $30 at the door.

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: Also at Crossgates, another new performance venue isn’t open yet, but Rascals has booked its first act – Glenn Hughes – Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductee as a member of Deep Purple and the self-proclaimed “Voice of Rock.” Blues rocker Joanne Shaw Taylor is slated to open the show. Tickets are currently available for $25.

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: Two new concerts were announced for The EggDawes and Henry Rollins. Tickets for both shows go on sale later this week.

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: If you’re lookin’ for laughs, “Saturday Night Live” alum Jon Lovitz and Pauly Shore are both headed into the Funny Bone Comedy Club for multiple-night stands.

Livetronica favorites Particle are rolling into Saratoga Springs’ Newberry Music Hall for a three-night residency from Friday-Sunday, July 1-3, just in case you happen to be searching out a post-Phish party. Doors open at 10:30pm each night. Advance tickets are $15 per night; $20 at the door.

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: And there are more laughs on tap at the Social House in Via Port-Rotterdam (formerly the Rotterdam Square Mall) in Schenectady. Upcoming comedy nights include Max Dolcelli and Liz Russo with host Dee Watson; Chris Coccia and Kevin Domnbrowski with host Frank Gentile; and Johnny Rizzo and Mark Walton with host Zach Swan. Tickets for each of the shows are currently available for $15 in advance; $20 at the door.

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: The Festival of Praise Tour is slated to make a stop at Albany’s Palace Theatre, featuring contemporary gospel stars Fred Hammond, Hezekiah Walker, Israel Houghton & New Breed, Karen Clark Sheard, Casey J, Regina Belle and comedian Earthquake. Tickets go on sale on Friday (June 17).
