FEST: Typewriter Arts Festival @ Greenville Drive-In on Saturday
The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog…
Greater Nippertown’s inaugural Typewriter Arts Festival is coming to the Greenville Drive-In at 6:30pm on Saturday (June 11), and whether you’re speed typist or a hunter-and-pecker, this could be one of the coolest and most unique events of the summer, combining music, film, visual art and a whole lotta vintage fun. Tickets are $10, available online and at the gate.
Here’s the schedule of events for the Typewriter Arts Festival:
6:30pm: TYPEWRITER-THEMED ART EXHIBIT & TYPE-IN IN THE BEER GARDEN
The Greenville Drive-In and the Greene County Council on the Arts are partnering to create a one-day-only art show focusing on the medium of typewriters. Images will be projected on the big screen, as well as on display in person. New Baltimore’s Sister Salvage will also be hosting a collection of vintage machines for display and sale. And festival-goers are encouraged to bring their own typewriters and join the “type-in.”
7pm: LIVE PERFORMANCE BY THE BOSTON TYPEWRITER ORCHESTRA
The Boston Typewriter Orchestra is a collective endeavor that engages in rhythmic typewriter manipulation combined with elements of performance, comedy and satire. Their performance at the Greenville Drive-In will be their Greater Nippertown debut.
8:45pm: SCREENING OF “THE TYPEWRITER (IN THE 21ST CENTURY)”
In May of 2010, filmmakers Christopher Lockett and Gary Nicholson read an article on Wired.com about the last generation of typewriter repairmen. Casual conversation over coffee turned toward the inevitable conclusion — a great documentary. This is the Greater Nippertown premiere of this fascinating film.
10pm: SCREENING OF “POPULAIRE”
A typewriter plays a key role in the storyline of the second film in this double feature, the 2012 French romantic comedy-drama film directed by Régis Roinsard.
