New Concerts Announced for Tanglewood

Country music icon Dolly Parton is slated to land at Tanglewood in Lenox, kicking off the 2016 season at 7pm on Friday, June 17 in the Koussevitzky Music Shed.

The concert is part of Parton’s first major North American tour in more than a quarter century. In support of her new 2-CD album, Pure & Simple with Dolly’s Biggest Hits, she is expected to sing the well-known selections of her long career from “Jolene” to “Coat of Many Colors” to “I Will Always Love You,” all in a primarily acoustic format, backed by a small band.

“There’s only four of us on stage,” she told Rolling Stone Country earlier this month. “We play different instruments, and we all sing and do all those songs that people know, but they’re just not as big, and we don’t have a lot of effects on stage.”

Not only a country music star, the 70-year-old Parton has crossed over to major pop culture legend status thanks to her numerous appearances on television, in films, on Broadway (“9 to 5”), at her Dollywood theme park and beyond.

Also newly announced is the season-closing performance by Keith Lockhart and the Boston Pops Swing Orchestra, who are scheduled to perform in the Shed at 8pm on Saturday, September 3. A dance floor will be set up on the lawn for Tanglewood debut of the Boston Pops Swing Orchestra, playing an evening of memorable melodies and big band classics.

Tickets for both newly announced concerts are slated to go on sale on Monday, April 4. Stay tuned for further ticket info…
