MUSIC: Carly Rae Jepsen @ the Upstate Concert Hall, Clifton Park. With her third album, last year’s E-mo-tion, the “Call Me Maybe” singer garnered some serious cred and earned a spot a numerous Best of the Year lists. With Cardiknox and the Fairground Saints. 8pm. $28.

THEATER: “The Lion King” @ Proctors, Schenectady.It’s opening night! The winner of six Tony Awards, including Best Musical, is helmed by director Julie Taymor, who brings to life a story filled with hope and adventure set against an amazing backdrop of stunning visuals. Also featuring the choreography of Garth Fagan and the music of Elton John and Tim Rice. 7:30pm. $20-$170. Through Sunday, April 17.

THEATER: “The Blue Sky Boys” @ Capital Repertory Theatre, Albany. Deborah Brevoort’s play is an exhilarating romp through the creative minds of the maverick engineers who stopped at nothing to get a man to the moon and back. Directed by Gordon Greenberg. 7:30pm. $20, $30 & $50. Through Sunday, April 3.

WORKSHOP: Songwriter’s Workshop @ Spectrum Playhouse, Lee. Local 518 pop singer-songwriter Sandy McKnight conducts a two and a half hour session. Learn how to write songs. Or write better songs. Or what to do with your songs after you’ve written them… 6:30pm. $10.
