In conjunction with the New York Folk Music Legacy Series, singer, guitarist and folk music icon Happy Traum presented a captivating multi-media presentation, “Coming of Age in the Greenwich Village Folk Revival and the Woodstock Scene 1954-1971,” at a number of Greater Nippertown locations last week.
The series of music talks was slated to begin on Thursday, March 10 at the Schenectady County Public Library, but an emergency trip to the hospital forced the cancellation of the first show. Fortunately, the 77-year-old Traum recovered in time to present the show four times over the course of the next three days, beginning in Albany at WAMC-FM’s The Linda last Friday.
The free presentations utilized colorful anecdotes and incisive memories, vintage photos and music clips interspersed with live performances, as Traum related some of his adventures as an active member of the New York folk music revival from the booming ’50s & ’60s scene in NYC’s Greenwich Village to the more pastoral resurgence in Woodstock in the late ’60 and early ’70s.
