New on tap at Albany’s Hollow Bar + Kitchen, American Authors grab the spotlight at 9pm on Friday, April 1 ($20), while Boy and Bear take the stage at 9pm on Wednesday, June 8 ($15 in advance; $18 at the door).
The Calvin Theatre in Northampton plays host to the Anderson Ponty Band at 8pm on Saturday, May 21. That’s right, Yes’ Jon Anderson has teamed up with jazz-rock violinist Jean-Luc Ponty. Tickets go on sale on Friday (March 4) priced at $39.50, $49.50, $69.50.
IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: Four new pop/rock concerts have been announced for Tanglewood’s Koussevitzky Shed in Lenox, including Earth, Wind & Fire, Jackson Browne, Train with Andy Grammar and – check this out – the B-52’s with the Boston Pops Orchestra. Bet you didn’t see that one comin’, did you? Tickets go on sale on Monday, March 14.
The Stick Men – the titanic trio featuring Tony Levin, Markus Reuter and Pat Mastelotto – rumble into the Van Dyck in Schenectady for a pair of shows (6:30 & 9pm) on Saturday, April 23. Tickets are on sale now, priced at $22.50 in advance; $25 at the door.
IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: Led by founding member/lead vocalist Dave Wakeling, the English Beat will be skanking their way into The Egg. Tickets go on sale at 11am on Friday (March 4).
At Club Helsinki in Hudson has bolstered its calendar with a batch of new concerts, including Crystal Bowersox at 9pm on Saturday, April 9; Vetiver at 9pm on Saturday, May 7; Joan Shelley with Sam Moss at 8pm on Thursday, June 9; and Okkervil River at 9pm on Saturday, July 16.
IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: Zac is back at SPAC! Yes, the Zac Brown Band is returning to the Saratoga Performing Arts Center to wrap up their summer tour. Drake White & the Big Fire open the show. Tickets go on sale on Friday (March 4).
Here’s one that you probably didn’t see coming – Kiefer Sutherland takes the stage at the Iron Horse Music Hall in Northampton 7pm on Thursday, May 19, singing songs from his upcoming Americana album, Down in a Hole. Tickets are $20 in advance; $25 at the door. Also at the Iron Horse, in celebration of the 20th anniversary of their final studio album, Portrait of a Damaged Family, Miracle Legion is reuniting, featuring frontman Mark Mulcahy, Mr. Ray Neal, Dave McCaffrey and Scott Boutier. The show is at 7pm on Thursday, July 21, and tickets are $20 in advance; $22 at the door.
IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: The Green River Festival at Greenfield Community College has announced the line-up of bands for its 30th anniversary fest this summer, and the slate includes Dawes, Shakey Graves, Tedeschi Trucks Band, Shovels & Rope, Los Lobos, the Suffers, the North Mississippi Allstars, the Felice Brothers, Sister Sparrow & the Dirty Birds, Peter Wolf & the Midnight Travelers, NRBQ and a whole lot more.
IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: Mountain Jam has added a batch of new bands to the line-up, including Houndmouth, Nahko & Medicine for the People, Marco Benevento & Superhuman Happiness: A Tribute to David Bowie, and emerging artists the Record Company, Quilt, Darlingside, Elijah Wolf, the Movement, Scott Sharrard, Upstate Rubdown and Saratoga Springs power trio Wild Adriatic.
Local 518 fave rockers Super 400 and Good Fiction team up to play a free concert at Mother’s Wine Emporium at RPI’s Student Union in Troy at 8pm on Saturday, March 26.
IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: It’s headbangin’ time! Slipknot roars into the Saratoga Performing Arts Center this summer, sharing the stage with Marilyn Manson and Of Mice & Men. Tickets go on sale on Friday (March 4).
The Low Beat in Albany will play host to the Americana duo of My Darling Clementine from the UK at 7pm on Sunday, April 3; 7Horse (featuring dada’s Phil Leavitt and Joie Calio) at 7pm on Monday, April 18; and the return of Hamell On Trial for a weekly Wednesday evening happy hour residency throughout the month of April (6, 13, 20 & 27).
IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: Peter Wolf & the Midnight Travelers return to The Egg in support of their upcoming album with Larry Campbell & Teresa Williams opening the show.
The Heavy rolls into Vapor in Saratoga Springs for a free show on Thursday, March 10. The doors open at 7pm, and Mirk opens the concert.
IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: Bluegrass greats Dan Tyminski and Ronnie Bowman are slated to bring some mighty hot pickin’ and singin’ to The Egg. Tickets go on sale on Friday (March 4).
The Sea Chanters, the official chorus of the United States Navy from Washington, D.C., offer a free concert at Albany’s Palace Theatre at 7pm on April 11. The twenty-voice chorus will perform a variety of styles ranging from patriotic selections to Broadway show-stoppers. Free general admission tickets are available in advance in person at the Palace. Any unclaimed seats will be available at the door.
