Art, Music, Fun & More at Upstate Artists Guild Gala on Saturday
A few years ago, UAG was facing bankruptcy and possible eviction from its storefront gallery exhibition space on Lark Street in Albany. But thanks to lots of hard work by the all-volunteer staff and a series of fundraisers, the doors are still open.
“The Upstate Artists Guild is a not-for-profit volunteer organization, open to all, which promotes the appreciation, practice, and enjoyment of art,” the organization states on its website. “Our mission is to promote art education and artistic endeavors throughout the community; to maintain a space in which to meet for the purpose of exhibitions, lectures, and instruction; and to work with the community to stimulate an interest in the arts.”
The fundraising efforts continue on Saturday (February 27) with the fifth annual Upstate Artists Guild Black & White Gala from 6-10pm at Overit in Albany, with a Champagne Preview from 5-6pm. And it all sounds like a rockin’ good time.
Entertainment for the Gala will include musical performances by the Dust Bowl Faeries (who are about to release their debut album next week), Off the Record (returning for the second consecutive year) and the debut of St. Thomas & the Self-Proclaimed Visionaries (a new roots-rock/gospel outfit led by artist/musician Thomas D’Ambrose and featuring Bob Assini, Mike Kelley and Todd Nelson), as well as poetry performances by >Dan Wilcox. Geo Doody returns as emcee for the event.
Original artwork in a wide variety of media will be on exhibit and for sale throughout the evening. Silent auctions will feature artwork as well as gift certificates from a wide variety of local businesses. The festivities also include a 50/50 raffle, hors d’oeuvres & food stations and a cash bar.
Four tiers of advance tickets will be available: Honorary Committee ($100), Champagne Preview ($50), Couples Package ($70) and General Admission ($40). Tickets will also be available at the door for $50 per person.
