MUSIC: Bebel Gilberto @ The Egg, Albany. Born into bossa-nova royalty – her parents are João Gilberto and Miúcha – she’s been performing contemporary Brazilian jazz since the age of nine. This is her “Valentine’s Day is for Lovers” concert. 8pm. $34.50.
MUSIC: Eleanor Friedberger @ the Bearsville Theater, Woodstock. The distaff half of Fiery Furnaces celebrates the release of her third solo album, New View.” With Big Thief (we love their new single “Masterpiece”) and Icewater. 9pm. $15.
CABARET: Charles Busch’s “The Lady at the Mic” @ Bridge Street Theatre’s Speakeasy, Catskill. The award-winning performer and playwright previews his brand-new cabaret show before its official premiere later this month at Lincoln Center. Accompanied by pianist Tom Judson, accordionist Guy Klucevsek and bassist Joe Gallant, Busch pays tribute to Elaine Stritch, Polly Bergen, Julie Wilson, Mary Cleere Harran and Joan Rivers. 6pm. $40, including a post-performance champagne reception. MUSIC: Martin Grosswendt & Susanne Salem-Schatz @ Caffe Lena, Saratoga Springs. Martin Grosswendt bagan as a dishwasher at Lena’s but soon was accompanying such performers as U. Utah Phillips, Rosalie Sorrels, Tom Mitchell and Jim Ringer & Mary McCaslin. He returns with partner Susanne Salem-Schatz for an evening of pre-war blues, old time and jug band to jazz standards, honky tonk. 8pm. $20.
MUSIC/FUNDRAISER: Winter’s Lasagna Benefit Dinner & Concert @ Old Songs, Voorheesville. Benefit for the Old Songs Festival featuring a concert by Annie & the Hedonists. 6pm dinner; 7:30pm concert. UPDATE: The dinner is sold out. Tickets are still available for the 7:30pm concert. $15; $5 children age 12 & under.
MUSIC: The Village People @ Proctors, Schenectady. Gimme a Y! Gimme an M! Gimme a C! Gimme an A! What’s that spell?!? Apparently disco is not dead; it just smells funny. With the Stockade Kids. 8pm. $20-$50.
MUSIC: Marcia Ball @ the Iron Horse Music Hall, Northampton. The piano queen mixes up Gulf Coast blues, New Orleans R&B, swampy Louisiana ballads and Tex-Mex-flavored zydeco into a one-of-a-kind musical gumbo. 7pm. $30.
COMEDY: Ian Bagg @ the Funny Bone at Crossgates Mall, Guilderland. Fun fact: He’s the the only known comic to have worked for famed director/producer Judd Apatow and not become a multi-billionaire. 7:30 & 10 pm. $20. Through Sunday. UPDATE: The 7:30pm show is now officially sold out…
