LIVE: Jackie Greene @ The Egg, 2/12/16
Photographs by Andrzej Pilarczyk
Well known for his guitar work with the Black Crowes, Phil Lesh & Friends and Trigger Hippy, roots-rock singer-songwriter Jackie Greene and his band – featuring guitarist Nathan Dale, drummer Fitz Harris and bassist Jon Cornell – rolled into The Egg last week in support of his critically acclaimed new album, Back to Birth, his first solo album in five years.
And if you missed his show at The Egg, Jackie Greene and his band are headed into Club Helsinki in Hudson at 8pm tonight (Thursday, February 18). Tickets are still available, priced at $25 & $35.
Excerpt from David Singer’s review at The Daily Gazette: “Jackie Greene played a full show of decent, original music before he finally cracked open The Egg’s sold-out Swyer Theater Friday night at the very end with, of all things, cover tunes. It happened on the last song of the set, when he played the Grateful Dead’s ‘Shakedown Street.’ Before this point the night was fine, people would have left somewhat satisfied, but far from blown away. Here, they were out of their seats for the first time, dancing all over the place, transforming the small venue from a nice theater to a jamming concert. The place was finally hot, the band was finally hot, and Greene played an elongated guitar solo we knew he was capable of but hadn’t yet witnessed. Halfway through the jam he broke into Pink Floyd’s ‘Another Brick in the Wall,’ articulating the vocals with his guitar. It was fantastic guitar work, and when we thought it was over, he gave us another round of ‘Shakedown’ before closing it down.”
