Remembering Bowie…

In the wake of Lady Gaga’s tribute/impersonation at Monday night’s Grammy Awards Show, David Bowie is remains a major buzz-factor in the news cycle more than a month after his death.

And this weekend you can catch two more Bowie tributes around Greater Nippertown…

Proctors’ GE Theatre in Schenectady is hosting a rare theater screening of “Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars: The Motion Picture” at 7pm on Friday (February 19). Directed by counterculture chronicler D.A. Pennebaker (“Monterey Pop,” “Don’t Look Back”), the film captures Bowie in concert at London’s Hammersmith Odeon on July 3, 1973, his final performance as his alter-ego Ziggy Stardust. Tickets are $9; $6 students.

Then at 8pm on Sunday (February 21) Bing Bamboo Room Burlesque & Variety Show will pay homage to the man, the music and his many shape-shifting personas with “In Tribute to David Bowie” at the Low Beat in Albany. Joi Ryde will serve as the guest host for the evening’s festivities, and tickets are $15.

BONUS UPDATE: On Friday, March 25, Warhols Woodshed and Factory Radio will team up for a Bowie tribute show – including The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars performed in its entirety – at a 5pm happy hour show at the Low Beat in Albany.
