Manuel Valera & the New Cuban Express blew their way into Greater Nippertown recently with a rhythmically charged performance at the Unitarian Universalist Society of Schenectady’s Whisperdome in the latest installment of the A Place for Jazz fall concert series.
The dual percussion section of Ludwig Alfonso and Mauricio Herrera led the charge, with Hans Glawischnig anchoring the propulsive band on electric bass. Saxman Will Vinson alternated leads, harmony and melody with bandleader Manuel Valera on electronic keyboards and piano.
