Win FREE Tickets to Ben Sollee & Mother Falcon @ Troy Music Hall on Thursday
Ben Sollee is a singer-songwriter, but his instrument of choice isn’t the guitar or the piano. It’s the cello. That’s right, the cello…
On Thursday evening, Sollee brings his cello to the Troy Savings Bank Music Hall for an exciting and adventurous evening of music on a double-bill with the equally outside-the-box indie orchestra Mother Falcon.
An ambitious symphonic rock/orchestral pop collective based out of Austin and spearheaded by bandleader-founder-cellist Nick Gregg, Mother Falcon took a cue from other classical-minded pop artists – like Sufjan Stevens, Beirut and the Polyphonic Spree – forming in 2008 while all of the members were still in high school. Having collaborated with such diverse folks as Alejandro Excovedo and Christopher Cross, the sprawling band makes their Local 518 debut in support of their brand new major-label debut album Good Luck, Have Fun, which was released earlier this month.
The Kentucky-born Sollee – whose 2006 debut album Turn On the Moon included an inventive cello arrangement of Prince’s “When Doves Cry” – is no stranger to Greater Nippertown, having played as a duo with banjoist Abigail Washburn at the Troy Savings Bank Music Hall, as a member of the Sparrow Quartet at The Egg and as a solo performer at The Linda.
Ben Sollee and Mother Falcon bring their Fall Migration Tour to the Troy Savings Bank Music Hall at 8pm on Thursday (October 22). Tickets are currently on sale sale, priced at $24 & $29.
