Sure, there are plenty of tribute bands roaming the earth these days, but there’s only one Tragedy: An All Metal Tribute to the Bee Gees and Beyond, who will be bringing their disco metal assault to the Hollow Bar + Kitchen in Albany at 9pm on Thursday, Nov. 12 ($12 in advance; $15 at the door). Also new at the Hollow is the fab female triple-bill of indie harpist Mikaela Davis, Olivia Quillio and Blueberry at 9:30pm on Saturday, October 17 ($12 in advance; $15 at the door); Skeleton Keys: A Grateful Dead Keyboard Extravaganza at 9:30pm on Saturday, October 24 ($15); Iration at 9pm on Monday, October 26 ($10.27 in advance; $15 at the door); Consider the Source with Nickopotamus at 9pm on Friday, November 20 ($12 in advance; $15 at the door); Cabinet with J.P. With the Gaslight Anthem on hiatus, apparently frontman Brian Fallon had enough time on his hands to write the songs for his debut solo album, Painkillers, slated for release in early 2016. And in support of the new album he’s hitting the road accompanied by the Crowes, a new combo featuring Gaslight Anthem guitarist Alex Rosamilia, the Horrible Crowes’ Ian Perkins and Molly & the Zombies bassist Catherine Popper, among others. The second stop on his debut solo tour will be at the Bearsville Theater in Woodstock at 9pm on Friday, January 8. Tickets are $22.50 in advance; $25 at the door. Also new on the Bearsville schedule is veteran Texas tunesmith Robert Earl Keen, who steps into the spotlight at 9pm on Friday, November 13. Tickets are $30 in advance; $35 at the door.
Remember the ’90s? As the headline act of the weekend-long Rocktoberfest celebration at King Neptune’s Pub in Lake George, Seattle rockers Candlebox unplug for an acoustic show on Friday night (October 9). Local 518 faves Flakjacket open the show at 9pm. Tickets are $20; $50 VIP with meet & greet.
Caffe Lena in Saratoga Springs welcomes Maria Muldaur & Her Red Hot Bluesiana Band at 7pm on Thursday, October 15 for a career retrospective concert. Tickets are $25 in advance; $27 at the door. Other highlights upcoming on the Caffe calendar are fiddler Sara Milonovich’s 20th anniversary concert at 8pm on Friday, October 16 ($18 in advance; $20 at the door); the jazz guitar duo of Frank Vignola & Vinny Raniolo at 8pm on Saturday, October 17 ($25 in advance; $27 at the door); the double bill of Gathering Time and the Boxcar Lilies at 7pm on Sunday, October 18 ($18 in advance; $20 at the door); Aztec Two-Step at 8pm on Friday, October 23 ($27 in advance; $29 at the door); the fifth annual Halloween fundraiser featuring Grainbelt, Jim Gaudet, the Lazy Suns, Kyle Carey, Kaatskillachia and the Wrecking Board at 8pm on Saturday, October 24 ($20 in advance; $22 at the door); Dan Berggren’s 30th anniversary concert at 7pm on Sunday, October 25 ($18 in advance; $20 at the door); and the rollicking Spuyten Duyvil at 8pm on Friday, October 30 ($20 in advance; $22 at the door).
In Hudson at Club Helsinki, eclectic clarinetist Don Byron & Friends take the stage at 9pm on Saturday, November 28 ($TBA), and singer-songwriter Dar Williams steps into the spotlight at 9pm on Saturday, February 27 ($25 & $35).
The Kansas City-based mother-and-son soul-folksters Madisen Ward & the Mama Bear are slated for a tour stop at The Hangar in Troy on Saturday, December 12. Advance tickets are $15.
Jorma Kaukonen steps into the spotlight at the Woodstock Playhouse in Woodstock at 8pm on Saturday, October 24, headlining the centerpiece concert of the weekend-long Woodstock Invitational Luthiers Showcase. Joining the Jefferson Airplane/Hot Tuna guitarmaster will be David Broza and Doug Wamble. Tickets are $50, $60 & $75.
IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: Holly Bowling performs an evening of solo piano interpretations of the music of Vermont jam-band faves Phish at the College of Saint Rose’s Massry Center for the Arts in Albany.
Anti- recording artist and Troy native Sean Rowe heads into the Newberry Music Hall in Saratoga Springs at 9pm on Saturday, October 17. Tickets are $10 in advance; $15 at the door.
