FREE FEST: Troy ChowderFest on Sunday

This weekend, the annual Troy ChowderFest welcomes chowder-lovers throughout Greater Nippertown to come out and judge who has the best chowder in the city. From 12noon-4pm on Sunday (October 11), 19 restaurants and chowdermakers from around town will participate, cooking up all sorts of creative chowders. Prizes will be awarded in six different categories. Here’s how it works: Buy as many chowder-tasting tickets as you’d like! $1 = one ticket = 1 cup of chowder.
In addition to the chowders, there will be free music, pony rides, a cornhole competition, craft vendors, a flea market and children’s street performers. It’s a full day of fall food, live music and family fun.
But there are some big changes to this year’s ChowderFest. Rather than gathering all of the chowder competitors in Riverfront Park as in years past, 11 downtown restaurants participating in the fest will serve their chowder directly from their own establishments. There will be a free shuttle bus to transport festival-goers should they opt not to meander on foot.
Meanwhile, the other eight competitors – as well as the main musical stage, the main ticket booth and the info tent – will be located in Monument Square on River Street.
While the chowder competitors will be spread out around downtown Troy, so too will be the free music. In addition to the main stage, there will also be four additional performance spaces around town.
