Saturday, September 12 was a huge day for festival-goers with three – count ’em, 3 – free music festivals going on in downtown Albany alone. While the Albany Riverfront Jazz Festival moved to its rather inhospitable rain site and festival-goers at PearlPalooza got soaked, the Hispanic Heritage Celebration was rain-free, wisely held indoors at the Empire State Plaza Convention Center.
The annual celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month paid tribute to Latin culture with a five-hour bash of dance, food, family-friendly activities and, of course, lots of music. Singer of salsa and pop ballads, headliner Alex Matos – the winner of the prestigious Casandra Award of the Dominican Republic in 2014 as “Salsero of the Year” – brought plenty of heat to the festivities, along with DJ Boy Boy, MW and George Lamond.
