LIVE: Platte Clove Nature Theater @ Club Helsinki, 6/7/15
Photographs by Timothy Reidy
You may remember that about a year ago, rock cellist Melora Creager (of Rasputina) held a weekly month-long residency debuting a new ensemble the Calico Indians at Club Helsinki in Hudson. Well, Platte Clove Nature Theater have similar musical sensibilities, as well as sharing a number of members, including pianist Luis Mojica, multi-instrumentalist/aerialist Ryder Cooley and Creager.
Mojica, Cooley and the sublime vocalist Fredo Viola were the main co-conspirators for PCNT, but they were joined by a number of additional musicians (including Creager and the Dust Bowl Faeries’ Karen Cole) for what they described as “a musical odyssey” and “a unique and theatrical blend of electronic and organic sounds, complex compositions, looped and layered vocals, piano, accordion, singing saw, beat box, ukulele, video projections, aerial movement and more.”
And that about says it all…
If any of this this looks/sounds intriguing, head up to Caffe Lena in Saratoga Springs at 8pm on Saturday (June 27), for the “ethereal gothic folk” double-bill of the newly expanded Dust Bowl Faeries (led by Ryder Cooley & her partner Hazel) and the duo of Melora Creager & Luis Mojica. This is definitely going to be something special. Tickets are $12 in advance; $15 at the door.
