Tom Healey Memorial Concert @ Watervliet Elks Lodge on Sunday
Tom Healey was a beloved veteran of the Nippertown blues scene, as the frontman, vocalist, guitarist, harmonica player and bandleader of the Tom Healey Blues Band until his death last July at the age of 58.
In addition to releasing two excellent albums of original music, THB performed such prestigious local venues as the Palace Theatre, the Empire State Plaza Fleet Blues Festival, LarkFest and Alive at Five. In 2005, the band won the Northeast Blues Society’s battle of the blues bands and went on to compete in the International Blues Competition in Memphis. Healey was inducted into the New York State Blues Hall of Fame in 2012.
Healey was also a longtime history teacher at Albany High School (who had retired just a month prior to his death) and a Watervliet native.
Now a number of Local 518 bands are getting together to play a benefit concert in Healey’s memory. The concert will take place at 3pm on Sunday (June 7) at the Watervliet Elks Lodge, and all proceeds will benefit the Watervliet Civic Center.
Bands scheduled to perform include Silver Chain, the Brothers Flynn, Bluz House Rockers, Erin Harkes and Soul Sky. In addition, many other special guest musicians are slated to join in the festivities.
Tickets are $10 and will be available at the door. Food and beverages will also be available for purchase.
RIP: Tom Healey, 1956-2014
