Organized by Local 518 acoustic country blues band Red Haired Strangers, the annual Roots Music Festival is always a highlight of Nippertown’s spring concert season, with a smorgasbord of roots sounds.

Headlining this year’s festivities at WAMC-FM’s The Linda in Albany were Yarn, the Brooklyn-based Americana band led by guitarist-vocalist (and Schenectady native) Blake Christiana.

But there were plenty of other bands on the bill. Sharing the stage throughout the evening were the heavenly gospel and soul sounds of the Mount Olive Baptist Male Chorus, the bluesy Doornails, singer-songwriter Matt Durfee, the country/bluegrass-flavored Nellies and emcee Michael Eck, in addition to Red Haired Strangers.
