LIVE: Chuck Pyle @ Caffe Lena, 3/27/15
Review and photographs by Andrzej Pilarczyk
From Colorado, Chuck Pyle is a down to earth, warm and sincere singer, songwriter and storyteller. At his recent concert at Caffe Lena in Saratoga Springs, the self-proclaimed “Zen Cowboy” weaved simple guitar melodies with complex and sometimes acute observations about everything from bumper-sticker philosophy to the ever-changing socio-political landscape of the country.
He should know because he’s kept his eyes peeled and seen a lot in his 40-plus years as a traveling troubadour. His songs have caught the public’s ear as well as fellow performers, some of whom – John Denver, the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band and Suzy Bogguss – have taken Pyle’s songs into the studio to put on their albums.
At Lena’s, Pyle was in his element with a huge smile on his face, blending alt-country with contemporary folk and singing up a storm.
