COMIN’ SOON: New Concert Announcements


Commander Cody & His Modern Day Airmen will be swooping into The Hangar in Troy on Sunday, April 19. Texas singer-songwriter Billy Eli is slated to open the show at 8pm, followed by Mark Gamsjager & the Lustre Kings celebrating the release of their new CD, Go Green. Tickets for the triple-bill are $25, available at the Ale House and online.

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: Two new concerts – Old Crow Medicine Show with Sturgill Simpson and the Decemberists with Lucius – have been added to the summer calendar for Brewery Ommegang in Cooperstown.

Cassidy – the former lead singer, main songwriter and driving force behind the all-female rock quintet Antigone Rising – is leading her new band, the Music into WAMC-FM’s The Linda in Albany at 8pm on Saturday, May 2 in support of their self-titled debut album. Priced at $18, tickets are currently on sale. Also at The Linda, the annual Phil Ochs Song Night returns at 8pm on Saturday, May 23, hosted by Phil’s sister Sonny Ochs and WAMC-FM’s Wanda Fischer. A bunch of A-list folk faves – including Kim & Reggie Harris, Dom Flemmons, Greg Greenway, Sharon Katz and David Buskin – will share the spotlight as they delve into the songbag of the late singer-songwriter of the ’60s. Tickets are currently available, priced at $19.

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: Albany’s Alive at Five has announced the first concert of the summer’s weekly Thursday evening free concert series – jazz trio the Bad Plus together with supper saxman Joshua Redman. Opening the show will be the Local 518’s own jazz-funk kingpins the Chronicles.

The Newberry Music Hall in Saratoga Springs welcomes Tony Lucca – the second runner-up on the second season (2012) of NBC-TV’s singing competition talent show, “The Voice” – at 8pm on Saturday, April 18. Opening the show are Anna Rose & Castle Creek. Tickets are currently on sale priced at $10 in advance; $12 at the door.

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: The fabulous line-up of bands has been announced for the Green River Festival in Greenfield, Mass., including tUnE-yArDs, the Wood Brothers, J Mascis, Rubblebucket, Booker T. Jones, Milk Carton Kids, Antibalas, Steve Earle & the Dukes, the Punch Brothers, the Preservation Hall Jazz Band, Valerie June, Elephant Revival, Tony Joe White, Parker Millsap, the Revelers, Sean Rowe and lots, lots more.

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: Albany’s free Capital Concert Series at the Empire State Plaza will host a reggae night this summer featuring the double-bill of Maxi Priest and Morgan Heritage.

Local 518 favorites Derrick Horton & the Jay Street Band play classic Motown hits and their own original material in a benefit concert to aid the victims of the recent Jay Street fire. Proctors’ GE Theatre will host the concert at 7pm on Sunday, May 3. Ticket prices are $20; $10 students with all proceeds administered by the Schenectady Community Action Program to the victims.

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: Phish bassist Mike Gordon brings his side-project band back to The Egg’s Hart Theatre in Albany, where he recorded his 3-CD live set, The Egg back in 2011. Tickets go on sale at 10am on Friday (April 10).

In support of their latest album, Control, the Los Angeles-based band Milo Greene takes over the Hollow Bar + Kitchen in Albany at 9pm on Friday, June 12. Tickets are $15 in advance; $18 at the door.

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: Two more new concerts have been announced for The Egg in Albany – the Lone Bellow and the Jim Kweskin Jug Band Reunion. Tickets for both shows go on sale to the general public on Friday (April 10).

Austin-based rock trio Megafauna come rumbling into town at 8pm on Friday, June 12 for a show at the Low Beat in Albany. Tickets are $10.

SOLD OUT: At The Egg in Albany, tickets are now officially sold out for the Joan Armatrading concert on Sunday (April 12), as well as David Crosby’s show on Tuesday, June 30.

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: Although there’s still no official word from the venue yet, R&B/hip-hop veteran Charlie Wilson will step into the spotlight at the Times Union Center in Albany. KEM and Joe open the show.

OPENERS: Following her gig at Caffe Lena in Saratoga Springs on Saturday (April 11), Melissa Ferrick will open for Joan Armatrading at The Egg in Albany at 7:30pm Sunday (April 12)… Nashville singer-songwriter Anderson East has been tapped as the opening act for Brandi Carlile at the Palace Theatre at 8pm on Saturday, May 23.

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: Hosted by Melissa Rycroft, “Dancing With the Stars: Live” is scheduled to make a tour stop for a pavilion-only show at the Saratoga Performing Arts Center.
