MUSIC: Caladh Nua @ Troy Savings Bank Music Hall, Troy. Celebrate St. Patrick’s Day a little early with the Celtic sounds of Caladh Nua – a tightly-knit, vibrant and talented quintet of musicians with their origins deeply rooted in the Southern counties of Ireland. 7:30pm. $20 & $25.
THEATER: Blue Man Group @ Proctors, Schenectady. Blue Man Group creates an experience that’s both intellectually witty and slapstick silly. They have evolved from an intimate performance art group to a world-wide multi-media franchise, but it’s still an astute look at the foibles of contemporary human life through the eyes of three bald, blue and mute characters. 7:30pm. $20-$85.
MUSIC: Center for Deep Listening Celebration @ EMPAC at RPI, Troy. In celebration of the inauguration of the Center for Deep Listening at Rensselaer, Pauline Oliveros will lead a Sonic Meditation and Ione will present a Dream Incubation, followed by a reception in Evelyn’s Café. 6-8om.
THEATER: “Souvenir” @ Capital Repertory Theatre, Albany. Directed by Maggie Mancinelli-Cahill, the comedy with heart is based on the true story of Florence Foster Jenkins, who rose to fame for her annual, sold-out, opera recitals at the Ritz Carlton. MUSIC: Red Baraat @ Iron Horse Music Hall, Northampton. The pioneering eight-piece band from Brooklyn, whips up a singular, multi-culti sound, merging hard driving North Indian bhangra rhythms with elements of jazz, go-go, brass funk and hip-hop. With Khalif Big-Chief Neville & the Defenastrators featuring Charles Neville. 7pm. $18.
