Flashback: It’s the 35th Anniversary of “Hello! My Name Is Blotto. What’s Yours?”

Yes, believe it or not, this week marks the 35th anniversary of Blotto’s debut recording, the four-song, 12-inch slab o’ vinyl, Hello! My Name Is Blotto. What’s Yours?, which featured that sun-soaked song o’ summer “I Wanna Ba a Lifeguard,” as well as the semi-classic lounge band ode “(We Are) The Nowtones.”

In honor of the occasion, the ’80s power-pop parodyists uncovered a long-lost video from early 1982, recorded at Toad’s Place in New Haven. The 45-minute “Tonight at Toad’s” show features live performances as well as an interview with the band. It aired locally in Connecticut back in the day and hasn’t been seen since… until now.

NOTE: Esteemed photographer Joe Schuyler was the man behind the lens snapping the photograph of the dancing Blotto Lady that adorns the cover of Hello! My Name Is Blotto. What’s Yours? Sadly, Joe passed away last month, and there will be a celebration of his life at the Capital Repertory Theatre in Albany at 6pm on Monday (February 23). All are invited…

it’s great to see this video surface . it brings back so many great memories of living in albany during a time when local music was kicking ass in packed clubs and on the radio . blotto played a major role in putting albany’s music scene on the map.
