COMIN’ SOON: New Concert Announcements
Viral YouTube sensations Scott Bradlee & Postmodern Jukebox made their Nippertown concert debut with a sold-out show at the Troy Savings Bank Music Hall last year, and now they’re headed back to town for a performance at the Upstate Concert Hall in Clifton Park at 8pm on Friday, May 8. Tickets go on sale at 10am on Friday (February 20), priced at $25 in advance; $28 at the door. Also at UCH, Sublime tribute band Badfish returns at 7:30pm on Friday, May 1 with Good Fiction and the Mieshlunday opening. Tickets are $15 in advance; $20 at the door.
Super singer-songwriters Lyle Lovett and John Hiatt team up for an acoustic evening at the Ulster Performing Arts Center in Kingston featuring nothing but their voices, their guitars and some tantalizing stories. The concert is slated for 7pm on Sunday, May 3. Priced at $60 & $85, tickets will go on sale to the general public at 11am on Friday (February 20).
IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: After opening for Kiss last year, Def Leppard returns to the Saratoga Performing Arts Center this summer – this time as the headliner with Styx and Tesla sharing the bill. Tickets go on sale to the general public at 10am on Friday (February 20).
Let’s twist again like we did last summer! Vapor in Saratoga Springs has a batch of new shows on tap, including Twist King Chubby Checker, who plays two shows (4 & 7pm) on Saturday, April 11. Veteran hip-hop duo Salt n Pepa push it real good on Thursday, April 23, while country music band Parmalee grabs the spotlight on Friday, May 15. And British indie rockers Glass Animals make a tour stop on Thursday, June 18 in support of their debut album Zaba, released last year. Gilligan Moss is slated to open the show. Tickets for each of the newly announced concerts go on sale on Friday (February 20).
IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: Stand-up comedian and ubiquitous film star Kevin Hart is slated for a return performance at the Times Union Center in downtown Albany. Tickets go on sale to the general public at 12noon on Friday (February 20).
The British cross-generational, folk-and-beyond, father-and-daughter duo of Martin & Eliza Carthy are headed into Nippertown for a pair of concerts, playing at Caffe Lena in Saratoga Springs at 7pm on Wednesday, April 15 ($24 in advance) and at Old Songs in Voorheesville at 8pm on Thursday, April 16 ($25; $5 children 12 & under).
SOLD OUT: Hot on the heels of her Grammy win for Best Alternative Music Album, St. Vincent’s concert at the Upstate Concert Hall in Clifton Park at 8pm on Saturday, March 7 is now officially sold out. Along with Dropkick Murphys and Fifth Harmony, that makes the third sold-out show of March for UCH.
The disarmingly quirky singer-songwriter Nellie McKay returns to Nippertown for a pair of shows at the Van Dyck in Schenectady at 6:30 & 8:30pm on Saturday, April 4. Tickets are $22 in advance; $26 at the door. Also recently added to the Van Dyck’s calendar is the annual “The Day the Music Died” tribute show with the Tichy Boys and members of Rocky Velvet paying homage to the music of Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens and the Big Bopper at 8pm on Friday, March 6 ($15); and the guitar-and-voice jazz duo of Tuck & Patti at 6:30 & 8:30pm on Saturday, June 20 ($20 in advance; $24 at the door).

Gearing up for next month’s St. Patrick’s Day celebration? One of Ireland’s premier bands, Lunasa, returns to Celtic Hall in Colonie at 7:30pm on Tuesday, March 10. Tickets are $20 in advance; $25 at the door.
UPDATE: Last week we broke the news that Paul Weller will be rolling into the Upstate Concert Hall, and now the Clifton Park venue has confirmed the concert and announced the ticket info – priced at $25 in advance ($28 at the door), tickets will go on sale on Friday, February 27.
Grammy Award-winning jazz-pop trumpeter Chris Botti and his band are returning to the Bardavon in Poughkeepsie at 8pm on Thursday, June 25. Priced at $62 & $85, tickets go on sale to the general public at 11am on Friday (February 20).

Nova Scotia-based sisters Cassie & Maggie MacDonald make a stop at McGeary’s Pub in Albany for a matinee concert of acoustic Celtic roots music at 3pm on Sunday (February 22).
IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: Four new concerts have been announced for the Colonial Theatre in Pittsfield – BoDeans, veteran comedian Robert Klein, Arlo Guthrie and fab fiddler Natalie MacMaster.
The acclaimed all-star Cuban music combo Buena Vista Social Club has announced their farewell tour featuring Omara Portuondo, Eliades Ochoa, Guajiro Mirabal, Barbarito Torres, Jesus Aguaje Ramos and more, and before they say “adios,” they’ll be making a stop at the Calvin Theatre in Northampton at 8pm on Thursday, October 29. Priced at $49.50, $59.50 & $79.50, tickets go on sale on Friday (February 20).
The Rev Tor Band is headed into the Unicorn Theatre in Stockbridge at 8pm on Friday, March 20. Performing an all-acoustic show, the band will be recording and filming the show for an upcoming CD/DVD. Tickets are on sale now, priced at $25.
OPENERS: Prog-rockers Periphery headlined at the Upstate Concert Hall in Clifton Park earlier this month, and now its been announced that they’ll be returning to UCH, opening the show for In Flames and All That Remains at 7:30pm on Sunday, May 10.
If you missed Get the Led Out when they played the Palace Theatre earlier this month, you’ll have another chance to catch the Led Zeppelin tribute band in concert at Mountain Park in Holyoke at 4pm on Saturday, August 8. Rush tribute band Lotus Land opens the show. Tickets are on sale now, priced at $25 & $35.
