MUSIC: Extraordinary Night of Guitars @ Caffe Lena, Saratoga Springs. See what can be done with a guitar, thanks to three six-string masters who continue to push the guitar envelope – Shun Ng, Trevor Gordon Hall and Dan LaVoie. 8pm. $22.
MUSIC: Sister Sparrow & the Dirty Birds @ Club Helsinki, Hudson. Led by wailing frontwoman Arleigh Kincheloe, the Dirty Birds’ unique blend of R&B combines influences from deep soul to James Brown-style party-funk to Jamaican ska and reggae. This is gonna be a serious dance party. Sexual Reptiles open the show. 9pm. $22.
THEATER: “Tigers Be Still” @ Curtain Call Theatre, Latham. It’s opening night! Carol Max directs the regional premiere of Kim Rosenstock’s quirky, endearing dark comedy that follows the misadventures of Sherry Wickman, an unemployed, overwhelmed art therapist hiding out in her childhood bed. 8pm. $24.
THEATER: “Sylvia” @ the Sand Lake Center for the Arts, Averill Park. It’s opening night! The Circle Theatre Players present A.R. Gurney’s adult comedy, where nothing is as universal as loving your dog, but life at home becomes tense when she gnaws on a 22-year marriage. Directed by Joan Fuess. 8pm. $16; $10 under age 18. Through January 25.
FILM: “Doctor Zhivago” @ Mahaiwe Performing Arts Center, Great Barrington. David Lean’s epic tale of Russian history stars Omar Sharif and Julie Christie as star-crossed lovers. it might be cold outside, but it’s gonna seem just as chilly inside the theater. 7pm.
