11/17/14: Today’s Tips: Monday


MUSIC: Ramblin Jug Stompers @ McGeary’s Pub, Albany. After a hiatus, Nippertown’s premier jug band returns for their third-Monday-of-the-month residency. 7:30pm. FREE.

FILM: “Mean Streets” @ the Palace Theatre, Albany. Martin Scorsese’s 1973 breakthrough film starring Robert De Niro and Harvey Keitel. 7pm. $5.

MUSIC: Upstate @ the Falcon, Marlboro. Rebecca Martin (voice/guitar), Guillermo Klein (voice/piano) and Larry Grenadier (bass) kick off their weekly Monday night residency with guest drummer Lee Falco. 7pm. Donations encouraged.

MUSIC: Mondays with Melora @ Club Helsinki, Hudson. It’s the first of a month-long Monday night residency led by Melora Creager (cello, banjo, vocals) of Rasputina and her all-star band featuring stand-up bassist Chops LaConte (the Lustre Kings), accordionist-ukulele player-musical saw-ster Ryder Cooley (Dust Bowl Faeries), pianist-vocalist Luis Mojica and drummer Timothy Oakley (Phantogram, the Mathematicians). Special guests may include singer-violinist Eszter Balint, Kiki *d and Wild Boy with Clare Felice. 8pm. $7.

READING: Peg Spain Mutagh & Coleen Murtagh Paratore @ the Arts Center of the Capital Region, Troy. The mother-and-daughter authors read excerpts from “Writing It Right,” their inspirational memoir of the year they met weekly to share short pieces they’d written about “good things” in life as a way of helping each other move forward from the pain of depression and divorce. Sponsored by the Troy Savings Bank Music Hall. 6:30pm. $10.
