MUSIC: Hiromi: The Trio Project @ The Egg, Albany. One of the most dynamic and incendiary pianists on today’s jazz scene, Hiromi pumps out the energy with a muscular brand of prog/fusion fueled by the powerhouse rhythm section of bassist Anthony Jackson and former Journey drummer Steve Smith. 8pm. $39.50.
MUSIC: The Weight @ the College of Saint Rose’s Massry Center for the Arts, Albany. Paying tribute to the classic music of the Band, it’s the five-piece Woodstock-based group featuring Band alum guitarslinger Jim Weider and drummer Randy Ciarlante. MUSIC: Chris Smither @ Club Helsinki, Hudson. The acoustic blues/folk veteran is celebrating 50 years in the music biz and the release of his 2-CD career retrospective album, Still On the Levee. MUSIC: Maria Zemantauski’s Alegria Quartet @ Caffe Lena, Saratoga Springs. Nippertown’s forwmost flamenco guitarist brings her fiery fretwork to the famed coffeehouse along with her global music ensemble featuring cellist Monica Wilson-Roach, guitarist Jose Miralles and percussionist Brian Melick. 8pm. $20.
THEATER: “In Darfur” @ Shakespeare & Co., Lenox. Winter Miller’s provocative play follows three lives that intersect in the most challenging of circumstances: a camp for internally displaced persons. The story follows an aid worker’s mission to protect lives, a Darfuri woman’s quest for safety and a journalist’s pursuit to deliver a front page story to call world attention to a humanitarian crisis. The WAM Theatre production is directed by Kristen van Ginhoven. 7pm. $15-$40.
