MUSIC: The Mavericks @ The Egg, Albany. Led by the simply magnificent voice of Raul Malo, the genre-bustin’ band steps into an Albany spotlight for the first time since making their debut opening for Tim McGraw at the Pepsi Arena back in 1998. Expect such songs as “All You Ever Do Is Bring Me Down,” “Here Comes The Rain,” “Dance The Night Away” and surprises, too. 8pm. $38-$48.
MUSIC: Crystal Bowersox @ Troy Savings Bank Music Hall, Troy. The “American Idol” favorite makes her Troy debut in support of her latest release, “All That for This,” produced by Los Lobos’ Steve Berlin. With Caroline Glaser. 7:30pm. $27.
MUSIC: The Compact @ Club Helsinki, Hudson. Led by the songwriting team of guitarist/vocalist Erin Hobson and bassist/vocalist Steven Ross, the Compact celebrates the release of their new album, One at a Time, with a CD release party. 8pm. $15.
MUSIC: Marc Spitz @ College of St. Rose’s St. Joseph Hall Auditorium, Albany. The Frequency North reading series welcomes the novelist-rock writer-playwright-memoirist speaks about the craft of writing. He’s the author of such rock books as “We Got the Neutron Bomb: The Untold Story of L.A. Punk,” “Nobody Likes You: Inside the Turbulent Life, Times, and Music of Green Day,” “Bowie: A Biography” and “Jagger: Rebel, Rock Star, Rambler, Rogue.” 7:30pm. FREE. MUSIC: Under the Streetlamp @ Proctors, Schenectady. The former cast members of the Broadway hit “Jersey Boys” take you back to the ’50s and ’60s with the music of Motown, doo wop and old-school rock ‘n’ roll. 8pm. $20, $30, $50 & $60.
ARTIST TALK: “An Evening with Lemon Andersen” @ UAlbany’s University Art Museum, Albany. In an intimate and informal setting, Lemon Andersen will discuss his life and work, focusing on what nurtures him as an artist and how that has been the salvation in his life. An original cast member of “Russell Simmons Def Poetry Jam” on Broadway (2002-2003), he shared the 2003 Tony Award for Best Special Theatrical Event. A veteran of major spoken word performance venues, including the Nuyorican Poets Café and the Apollo Theater, Lemon is also the author of two poetry collections, “Ready Made Real” (2004) and “County of Kings” (2009), which earned the Grand Prize at the 2010 New York Book Festival. 7pm. FREE.
MUSIC: John Davidson @ Firefly Restaurant, Lenox. Broadway. “Hollywood Squares.” “That’s Incredible.” He also hosted the nationally syndicated “The John Davidson Show” from 1980-1982 and served as guest host on “The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson” 87 times. Yup, that John Davidson, who has recently relocated to Lenox. 8pm. $7.
