Albany’s fall street festival season kicked off last month with PearlPalooza, but unfortunately, the weather didn’t cooperate.
The chilly, rainy Saturday left fans waterlogged at the fifth annual PearlPalooza, which took place on Saturday, September 13 on downtown Albany’s North Pearl Street. And while other fests taking place that day scurried to the cover of their rainsite (like the Jazz at the Lake, which relocated to Lake George High School), there was no dry place for PearlPalooza to go. The fans got soggy, and the bands were singing in the rain.
But while the rain may have dampened spirits, it didn’t put a halt to the festivities, and all seven acts managed to get their licks in.
The street was full of the sounds of Mississippi indie rockers the Weeks, the funky dance music of San Francisco’s Slaptop, Saratoga soul-rockers Wild Adriatic, the homegrown rock of Northern Faces, Tennessee indie rockers Royal Bangs, brother-and-sister dream-pop duo from New Zealand Broods and the California-based festival-closers Terraplane Sun.
