Festival Fever: Rhythm on the River Americana Music Fest @ Revolution Hall, 3/15/14
After five years at Maple Ski Ridge in Rotterdam, there won’t be a sixth Rhythm on the Ridge festival this summer. But Flood Road – the band that founded and hosted the fest – has something else up their collective sleeve – the inaugural Rhythm on the River Americana Music Fest.
“The Rhythm on the Ridge fest was an exciting experience, located in scenic, rural Schenectady County,” explains J Peter Yakel of the band Flood Road and co-founder of the fest. “This year, we decided to take the successes of our past ROTR Fest experiences and apply them to a more centrally located urban venue, Brown’s Brewery/Revolution Hall in Troy, and see how that mix plays out.”
Yes, co-presented by Brown’s Brewing Company, the new fest has moved indoors to Revolution Hall in Troy. And rather than try to compete in the busy summer season, the one-day fest will take place on Saturday (March 15).
“We realized that mid-June can be a challenging time to put on an outdoor, two-day festival. Schools are wrapping up, numerous outdoor entertainment venues are kicking into full gear, and Mother Nature has traditionally not cooperated on that weekend,” says Chris Schultz, banjo player for Flood Road and festival co-founder. Integrating our efforts with Brown’s on March 15 enables us to offer a consolidated, fun-packed event in an afternoon environment where weather will not be an overriding variable.”
A showcase for Local 518 roots music, the fest kicks off at 1pm, with eight act performing on two stages. Of course, plenty of food and drink will be available along with the great music, and best of all, the admission to the fest is just $5.
