Comin’ Soon: New Concert Announcements


New Orleans trombonist Glen David Andrews – Trombone Shorty’s cousin – returns to Club Helsinki in Hudson at 9pm on Friday, March 21 ($20 in advance; $22 at the door), and Sharon Van Etten previews her upcoming album We Are There when she steps into the Helsinki spotlight at 9pm on Friday, May 9 ($15). And as part of the Helsinki On Broadway cabaret series, Tony Award-winning actress Randy Graff takes the stage at 8pm on Sunday, May 25. Tickets are $50.

Chef-turned-rapper Action Bronson played Skidmore’s fall concert with Danny Brown last year, but he’s headed back to Nippertown as the headliner at the Upstate Concert Hall in Clifton Park at 8pm on Saturday, March 29. Tickets are $20 in advance; $22 at the door. Also coming up at UCH, the Head and the Heart take the stage at 8pm on Monday, May 26; tickets go on sale at 10am on Friday.

At 8pm on Thursday, March 13, the Low Beat in Albany plays host to the Schoemer Formation, in which Karen Schoemer adds her words and voice to the already dynamic duo of Wreckless Eric and Amy Rigby. Admission is $7.

WAMC-FM’s The Linda welcomes back Buffalo-born singer-songwriter-rocker Willie Nile for another concert at 8pm on Saturday, May 17. Tickets are $20.

Celebrating its 35th anniversary this week, the Iron Horse Music Hall in Northampton has bolstered its concert calendar with a few new additions, including World Party at 7pm on Sunday, May 25 ($25 in advance; $28 at the door) and David Lindley at 7pm on Tuesday, June 3 ($20 in advance; $25 at the door).

Jazz guitarist Kurt Rosenwinkel leads his new quartet into Skidmore College’s Zankel Music Center in Saratoga Springs at 8pm on Wednesday, April 16.

OPENERS: Erin McKeown heads into Club Helsinki in Hudson at 8pm on Thursday, April 17, opening the show for the Mountain Goats.

As part of the 2014 Ahora Latin Jazz series, pianists Rebecca Cline and Nicki Denner will team up for an evening of music by Bebo Valdés at Union College’s Emerson Auditorium in Schenectady at 8pm on Saturday, May 17. Tickets are $15; $10 students.

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: The Egg in Albany added three new shows to its calendar – the comedy double-bill of Nema Williams and Ed Blaze; super singer-songwriter James McMurtry with the Bottle Rockets and the return of the subdudes.

As previously announced, Jonny Lang is headed into Albany’s Palace Theatre as part of the all-star Experience Hendrix concert on Friday, March 28, but the Grammy Award-winning blues guitarslinger will have the night all to himself when he steps into the spotlight at the Mahaiwe Performing Arts Center in Great Barrington for a headlining concert at 7pm on Sunday, June 8. Tickets are now on sale for $30, $59 & $79.

CANCELLED: Irish singer Paul Byrom was slated for a concert at The Egg in Albany on Thursday, March 6, but the concert has now officially been cancelled. refunds are available at the place of purchase.
