It wasn’t a full gallop. Actually, it was more of a trot as Band of Horses came to Nippertown with a casual, front-porch kind of acoustic sit-down concert in support of their new album, Acoustic at the Ryman, recorded live at the Nashville home of the Grand Ole Opry.

Sold-out weeks in advance, Sunday night’s concert at The Egg seemed to hit all the right notes with fans who applauded in recognition as soon as the band eased into nearly every song.

My wife and I went in, and upon seeing a similar crowd one might see at Wilco, Avett Bros., Josh Ritter, etc., I was anticipating a great show, even though I’ve never heard them before. After a while I realized we’ve seen hundreds of bands, including many openers, more inspired/inspiring than these guys. Reminded my wife and I of the band “America”, yes the lame 70’s band. We left. But at the same time there were 800-900 people who loved it! That’s the beauty of music, I guess.

  2. Richard Brody says

Bill – I can’t comment on Band of Horses because I was in the small theater for the Wood Brothers on Sunday. I think that you might have picked the wrong show because I didn’t see anyone leave the Wood Brothers sold-out show early, and when it did end there were a lot of WOWS from the audience.
