MUSIC: The Erik Lawrence Quartet @ the Falcon, Marlboro. In addition to leading his own groups, super saxman Lawrence has played with such greats as Levon Helm, Allen Toussaint and Sonny Sharrock. His quartet also features keyboardist Pete Levin, drummer Lee Falco and guitarist Rob Reich. 10am.
MUSIC: Amy Helm & the Handsome Strangers @ the Falcon, Marlboro. The daughter of music legend Levon Helm and singer-songwriter Libby Titus Fagen, Amy carries on the family musical tradition with bandmates Byron Isaacs (vocals, guitar, bass), Daniel Littleton (vocals, guitar) and David Berger (percussion). 7pm.
THEATER: “Yesterday, Today, and Tomorrow: 10 Years of Berkshire Children’s Theater” @ Berkshire Museum, Pittsfield. In celebration of 10 years of children’s theater, enjoy a medley of past and present troupe members performing some of their favorite musical memories. 3:30pm. $25.
FILM: “Cousin Jules” @ Time + Space Limited, Hudson. The lost masterwork of director Dominique Benichetti – made in 1973 but unreleased til now – details the daily lives of French farmer Jules and his wife living alone in the countryside. The result is a ravishing, totally immersive work, in which we not only enter into the subjects’ world but also into the very rhythms of their lives. 3pm. $8; $6 students.
FILM: “The Woman with 5 Elephants” @ Time + Space Limited, Hudson. Vadim Jendryko’s documentary unravels the mystery behind the life and work of the world’s greatest translator of Russian literature, Svetlana Geier. It is a poetic, precise and revelatory investigation into language, meaning and the tides of history. 1pm. $8; $6 students. Through January 4.
