Win FREE Tickets to Maura O’Connell @ the Parting Glass on Sunday!

A sublime Irish singer who got her start with the great Celtic traditional music band De Danaan, Maura O’Connell’s repertoire runs deep into the musical magic that springs from the roots of the Emerald Isle, stretching from William Butler Yeats to Van Morrison. But it’s not really accurate to call her an Irish singer. She’s so much more than that…

O’Connell is equally at home with tunes culled from the songbags of such British writers as Richard Thompson and Andy Irvine or American songsmiths like Cheryl Wheeler and Nanci Griffith. She’s a singer who knows no borders, either geographic or emotional. She reaches into the very heart of a song and unerringly makes it her own. John Gorka’s “Blue Chalk.” Shawn Colvin’s “Riding Shotgun Down the Avalanche.” Heck, I’ve even heard her sing Dave Brubeck’s jazz classic “Take Five.”

She’s been a long-time regular in Capital Region, gracing such prestigious stages as SPAC in Saratoga Springs, the Troy Savings Bank Music Hall in Troy, Central Park in Schenectady and The Egg in Albany, but sadly this is her farewell tour, and at 6pm on Sunday (November 3), she’ll return to her pub roots at the intimate Parting Glass in Saratoga Springs. Tickets are $25. It’s a show not to be missed…
