Win FREE Tickets to Vieux Farka Toure at the Sanctuary for Independent Media on Thursday
THURSDAY (OCTOBER 24),
7pm
VIEUX FARKA TOURE
Sanctuary for Independent Media, Troy
$20
Dubbed the “Hendrix of the Sahara” by critics, Vieux Farka Touré mixes tradition from his roots in Mali with American blues and jazz to create a shimmering sonic fusion. His new album Mon Pays (My Country) was recorded as homage to his homeland, which has been splintered by violence.
Toure was scheduled to celebrate his new album’s release with a free concert at Schenectady Central Park’s Mausic Haven this summer, but the the concert was cancelled due to a storm. Now he and his band are finally ready to hit a Nippertown stage. The concert is a benefit for the Sanctuary for Independent Media, and tickets are $20.
BUT WAIT… Have we got a deal for you! We’re giving away a pair of FREE TICKETS to the show to a lucky Nippertown reader! To enter the contest, just post a comment below. Please leave your email address, too. We won’t publish it, but we’ll use it to contact you if you win. The deadline to enter is 12noon on Thursday (October 24), and the winner will be selected at random and notified on Thursday afternoon. Enter today! And good luck! Why should I have to bribe my friends to come hear this great talent?
A great talent at a premier venue.
Great to see him back
Loved his father’s music and his is excellent as well; I would enjoy attending.
me me me me me me me not you
First of all, he doesn’t sound like his father: the CD I have highlights the light, almost harp-like sound of the kora more than the dark, bluesy guitar his father was known for. The music is hypnotic, celestial and frequently thrilling.
