Comin’ Soon: New Concert Announcements


In support of their latest album, The Fate of the World Depends On This Kiss, Whitehorse – the Canadian husband-and-wife team of Luke Doucet and Melissa McClelland – heads into Valentine’s Music Hall in Albany at 7pm on Sunday, February 24. Tickets are $10.

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: The Egg kicked off 2013 by announcing three new concerts – Cowboy Junkies, Bucky Pizzarelli & Frank Vignola and Hot Tuna with Jill Sobule – New Year’s Day. Now that’s what we call commitment.

Upcoming concerts at the Steamer No. 10 Theatre’s Eclectic Performances series include Annie & the Hedonists at 8pm on Saturday, January 19 and Frank Jaklitsch & Friends at 7pm on Sunday, May 5. Saturday, April 6. (UPDATED: Change of date due to incorrect information from the venue.) Tickets are $13 in advance; $15 at the door.

SOLD OUT: It looks like the Jeff Mangum concert at MASS MoCA in North Adams on Saturday, February 16 is now sold out. At least tickets are no longer available online…

Maverick musician Gary Lucas – guitarist who has worked with such adventurous music men as Captain Beefheart and Jeff Buckley – will be heading into the Saratoga Arts Center in Saratoga Springs at 9pm. on Saturday, June 8. As part of the annual Saratoga ArtsFest, Lucas will perform his original score to accompany a screening of the classic 1920 silent film, “The Golem.”

OPENERS: Up-and-coming British folk-rockers the Dunwells have been added as the opening act for Josh Ritter & the Royal City Band at The Egg in Albany on Wednesday, February 13.

New shows booked for Putnam Den in Saratoga Springs include John Brown’s Body with Barika at 9pm on Thursday, January 24 ($15); Floodwood at 9pm on Friday, January 25; and Paranoid Social Club with the Mallett Brothers Band at 9pm on Saturday, February 23 ($10).

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: New announcements from the Saratoga Performing Arts Center include a couple of new additions to the Freihofer Saratoga Jazz Festival line-up – the Chris Bergson Band and trombonist Sarah Morrow

CKS – the power trio featuring drummer Randy Ciarlante, keyboardist Bruce Katz and guitarist Scott Sharrard – returns to the Bearsville Theater in Woodstock at 9pm on Saturday, January 26. Tickets are $15 in advance; $20 at the door. Bearsville is also hosting an all-star concert of the music from “Jesus Christ Superstar” at 9pm on Saturday, February 9 and again at 4pm on Sunday, February 10. The pair of shows are benefits for the Woodstock Day School and feature performances by Tracy Bonham, Gail Ann Dorsey, Joey Eppard, Aaron Freeman (aka Gene Ween), Connor Kennedy, Gary Miller (aka Dr. Know of Bad Brains), Joe Russo and many more. Tickets are $20, $35, $45 & $65.

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: Veteran comedian Marc Maron – who hosts the podcast “WTF with Marc Maron” and has also appeared on Conan O’Brien’s television shows more than any other stand-up comic (a record 48 times and counting) – will be stepping into the spotlight at The Egg in Albany. Tickets go on sale on Friday (January 4).

Robert Earl Keen will be the special guest at the first Midnight Ramble of the new year at Levon Helm Studios in Woodstock at 8pm on Saturday, January 26, joining the Dirt Farmer Band and the Midnight Ramble Band. General admission tickets are $85; standing room $65.

UPDATE: As we announced last month, Gypsy jazz guitarist Stephane Wrembel and his band are headed into the Van Dyck in Schenectady for two shows (7 & 9:30pm) on Saturday, March 9. Ticket prices have now been announced – $18 in advance; $22 at the door.
