Comin’ Soon: New Concert Announcements

Skidmore College in Saratoga Springs has announced a batch of shows for the Zankel Music Center during the spring semester. Inventive piano virtuoso Gabriela Montero – who has recently headlined at SPAC and the Troy Savings Bank Music Hall – comes to the Zankel at 8pm on Thursday, March 21, followed by all-star jazz combo the Fellowship Band (featuring pianist Jon Cowherd, bassist Christopher Thomas, saxmen Melvin Butler and Myron Walden and drummer Brian Blade) at 8pm on Friday, March 22. The acclaimed and eclectic Los Angeles Guitar Quartet is also on tap at 8pm on Sunday, April 21. Tickets for each of the shows are $8; seniors $5; students and children FREE. Tickets go on sale on Tuesday, January 15.

Juelz Santana of the hip-hop group Dipset is headed into the Upstate Concert Hall in Clifton Park at 8pm on Saturday, January 12. Tickets are $20 in advance; $23 at the door.

POSTPONED: Two shows slated for the Upstate Concert Hall in Clifton Park this week have been postponed due to impending winter weather conditions. Tonight’s concert (Wednesday, December 26) by rapper Chris Webby has been postponed til Friday, January 4, while Thursday’s night show (December 27) by Badfish has been postponed til Thursday, January 3. Tickets purchased for the original dates will be honored for the new concert dates.

UPDATE: The 7pm performance on Saturday, February 2 by stand-up comic Lisa Lampanelli at The Egg in Albany wasn’t quite sold-out at press time, but it’s pretty darned close, So Lampanelli has added a second show for 10pm on the same night. Tickets are $37.75 for either performance.

The Linda in Albany has added a couple of new shows to its 2013 performance calendar, including Cozin Mann’s gospel-comedy show, “God Has a Sense of Humor, Too!,” at 6:30pm on Saturday, January 26 ($15 in advance; $20 at the door) and the CD release party for Nippertown bluegrass faves Jim Gaudet & the Railroad Boys at 8pm on Friday, March 1 ($15).

CANCELLED: Originally slated for Friday, January 18, the performance by stand-up comedian Bruce Bruce at The Egg in Albany has been cancelled. refunds are available at the place of purchase.

We announced it a couple of weeks ago, but now the Van Dyck in Schenectady has gotten around to making it official. The Hot Club of Detroit will play a pair of shows (7 & 9:30pm) on Friday, February 1. Tickets are $15 in advance; $20 at the door. Also new on the Van Dyck’s schedule is Michael Benedict’s Bopitude featuring baritone sax master Gary Smulyan at 7 & 9:30pm on Friday, February 8.

Veteran power-popsters the Gin Blossoms take over the spotlight for a concert at Vapor in Saratoga Springs at 8pm on Thursday, January 24. Tickets are $20 in advance; $25 at the door. Meanwhile, country singer Randy Houser – whose new album How Country Feels is slated for release in January – will make a tour stop at Vapor at 8pm on Thursday, February 7. Tickets are $20 in advance; $25 at the door.

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: We announced it last month, but now we’ve got the details, and tickets are on sale. Pete & Peggy Seeger – brother-and-sister folk music legends – will team up in concert at the Eighth Step at Proctors in Schenectady.
