Best of 2012: Best Art Books
From Modern Art Notes: Tyler Green weighs in on the Best Arts Books of 2012.

THE BOOK OF THE YEAR: “The Civil War and American Art” is the rare book that connects the dots between art and history so well that the reader assumes that the subject is well-worn. It is not. The book, which trumps the exhibition in part because the strange, small-walled, low-ceilinged exhibition space at the Smithsonian American Art Museum restricted the way the show might have been hung, deserves to win awards in two disciplines: Art history and American history.
