MUSIC: The Battlefield Band @ Club Helsinki, Hudson. The bedrock of Scottish musical talent for more than four decades, the Battlefield Band continues to lead the way with their inspired fusion of ancient and modern traditional music and song, as they live up to their motto, “Forward with Scotland’s past.” 8pm. $20.
MUSIC: Hamell on Trial @ Valentine’s Music Hall, Albany. Hamell’s Wednesday night October residency at Valentine’s continues as he showcases new material for his new one-man show “Eddie’s Bar,” in which he plays Eddie, your colorful, irreverent, foul-mouthed host for an evening of songs, jokes and tales from the urban underbelly. 7pm. $7.
FILM/MUSIC: Silent Film Spectacular @ Albany Public Library, Albany. The screening of the 1928 silent film classic “The Wind” – starring Lillian Gish – is accompanied by live original music from Shape Shifting Shepherds with special guest Laura Frare. 7pm. FREE.
MUSIC: The Wheelbarrow Boys @ the Olde English Pub, Albany. Featuring Scott Hopkins on banjo (Fairview Avenue) and Mat Kane on fiddle (Jim Gaudet & the Railroad Boys), the duo plays an assortment of bluegrass breakdowns, old-timey fiddle tunes, Gypsy jazz standards, catchy originals, Irish reels and maybe even a Swedish schottis for good measure. 8:30pm. THEATER: “Gothic at Midnight: An Evening of Hilarity & Horror” @ UAlbany Performing Arts Center, Albany. Spine-tingling thrills. Tales of terror. Riveting recitations of the fantastic. Drawing from the works of Edgar Allan Poe, Charles Dickens, Ambrose Bierce, W.B. Yeats, Bram Stoker, Mary Shelley and other classic creepsters, actor Joshua Kane blends the power and dramatic sweep of solo theater with the ancient art of storytelling and the suspense of old fashioned gothic horror. 7:30pm. $15; seniors $12; students $10.
