MUSIC: The Bang On a Can Marathon @ MASS MoCA, North Adams. The six-hour boundary-busting, ear-pleasing concert of adventurous music featuring more than 50 musicians and composers from around the world, including Steve Reich, who will be on hand to hear his hard-rocking “2×5” (premiered and recorded by Bang on a Can), the ever-popular “Eight Lines” and a rare performance of “Cello Counterpoint,” played live by eight cellists. 4pm. $24; students $15.
MUSIC: Blasé DeBris @ Valentine’s Music Hall, Albany. Duane Beer and his veteran Local 518 punk-metal band won’t be releasing their new album “La morte mi troverà vivo” on Austin’s Altercation Records until October. But lucky Nippertown fans will get a jump on everyone else tonight with tonight’s special “Locals Only” CD release show. With Mördwölf and Horror Business. 8:30pm. $10.
FESTIVAL/MUSIC: Falcon Ridge Folk Festival @ Dodds Farm, Hillsdale. It’s Day Two of the three-day fest. Today’s featured performers include Tracy Grammer, the Grand Slambovians, Girlyman, Eddie from Ohio, Brother Sun, Holly Near, Rod McDonald, more… Music starts at 10:30am. More info here…
FILM: “The Virgin Spring” @ Time + Space Limited, Hudson. The Classic Film Series continues with Ingmar Bergman’s Academy Award-winning 1960 tale of faith, revenge and savagery in medieval Sweden, starring Max von Sydow. 3:30pm. $7; students $5.
FILM: “Elena” @ Time + Space Limited, Hudson. Russian filmmaker Andrey Zvyagintsev’s gripping, modern twist of the classic film noir thriller as the winner of Cannes’ Special Jury Prize. With music by Philip Glass. 7:30pm. $7; students $5.
FILM: “The Day He Arrives” @ Time + Space Limited, Hudson. Sang-soo Hong’s heartbreaking and hilarious film of repeating patterns and circumstance is a meditation on relationships, filmmaking and the unknowable forces that govern our lives. 5:30pm. $7; students $5.
MUSIC: Donna McKechnie’s “My Musical Comedy Life” @ the Colonial Theatre, Pittsfield. The Tony Award-winning star of “A Chorus Line” brings her cabaret show to town in a benefit to honor Larry Vaber. 8pm. $25, $45 & $100.
