SPAC Updates for 2012
The Mingus Big Band has been added to the line-up for Freihofer’s Saratoga Jazz Festival at the Saratoga Performing Arts Center in Saratoga Springs on Saturday, June 30. The 14-piece Grammy Award-winning jazz ensemble features an all-star line-up of players, including trumpeters Randy Brecker and Alex Sipiagin; saxophonists Craig Handy, Seamus Blake, Vincent Herring and Ronnie Cuber; trombonists Conrad Herwig and Ku-umba Frank Lacy; and pianist David Kikoski.
The Bill T. Jones/Arnie Zane Dance Company, one of the most innovative and powerful forces in the modern dance world, will highlight SPAC’s 2012 season on Thursday, June 7 with a program featuring “D-Man in the Waters,” set to Mendelssohn’s Octet in E-flat Major for Strings, Op. 20. Also on the program will be “Spent Days Out Yonder,” set to the second movement of Mozart’s String Quartet No. 23 in F Major. Both works will be accompanied by live music.
The folks at SPAC also announced that internationally acclaimed pianist André-Michel Schub, whose breathtaking performances captivated SPAC’s Chamber Music audiences last season, will be returning as the artistic director of the Saratoga Chamber Music Festival at the Spa Little Theater in 2012.
