MUSIC: Justin Townes Earle @ Club Helsinki, Hudson. The alt-country singer-songwriter has carved his own path, and it’s paying off. In October, the title track of his album, “Harlem River Blues” was named Song of the Year at the Americana Music Awards. With Tristen. 9pm. $25.
MUSIC: Taylor Eigsti @ Skidmore College’s Zankel Music Center, Saratoga Springs. Up-and-coming jazz pianist whose repertoire stretches from straight ahead jazz to such indie popsters as Nick Drake, Imogen Heap, Elliot Smith and Rufus Wainwright. 8pm. $12; seniors $7; students $5.
MUSIC: “The Long Memory: A Tribute to Utah Phillips” @ Caffe Lena, Saratoga Springs. An irreverent musical homage led by his son Duncan Phillips and also featuring Dan Schatz, Anke Summerhill, Doug Wintch and Paul Rasmussen. 8pm. $24; student rush $5.
MUSIC: Hurricane Bells @ Valentine’s Music Hall, Albany. Hurricane Bells was supposed to be a side-project band for Steve Schiltz, but since “Monsters” found its way on the soundtrack of the “Twilight” film “New Moon” priorities seem to have flip-flopped. MUSIC: JACK Quartet @ EMPAC at RPI, Troy. A string quartet performance in two acts featuring three pieces from the 1960s to the present that play with conventions of music notation and performance, and a haunting 30-minute piece from the 1990s with an uncanny spectral interplay. 8pm. $18.
MUSIC: Dax Riggs @ The Linda, Albany. The ex-deadboy & the Elephantmen and ex-Acid Bath’s Dax Riggs rolls into town in support of his sophomore solo album “Say Goodnight To The World.” With Skeletons in the Piano, Pillowhead and Justin Joseph. 7pm. $12.
MUSIC: The Mendelssohn Club of Albany @ The Egg, Albany. Jeffrey Vredenburg conducts the holiday concert “Welcome Yule.” With the Bethlehem Lutheran Church Handbell Choir and the Bel Canto Voices. 8pm. $18.
MUSIC: The Alexis P. Suter Band @ the Bearsville Theater, Woodstock. Regulars at Levon Helm’s Midnight Rambles, the soul-soaked blues band serves up a special holiday concert.
