Northern Lights is all a-twinkle with new show announcements this week. The biggie is Sublime With Rome, featuring the two surviving members of Sublime and guitarist-vocalist Rome Ramirez. They’re slated to hit the NL stage at 8pm on Monday, September 5. Priced at $37.50, tix go on sale at 10am on Saturday. Also new on the calendar is supergroup Adrenaline Mob – featuring Mike Portnoy (Dream Theater), Russell Allen (Symphony X), Rich Ward (Stuck Mojo), Mike Orlando (Sonic Stomp) and Paul Di Leo (Billy Joel) – who will be shaking it up at 7:30pm on Thursday, August 18. Advance tix go on sale at 10am on Saturday for $12. Other shows include Four Year Strong with Gallows, Title Fight, the Swellers and Sharks at 7pm on Tuesday, October 18 ($15 in advance; on sale at 10am on Saturday, August 6) and Nashville star Chris Young at 9pm on Friday, November 4 ($20 in advance; on sale at 10am Saturday).
The Avett Brothers and a pint of Rare Vos? Does it get any better than that? The Avett Brothers roll into Brewery Ommegang in Cooperstown at 8pm on Tuesday, September 27. Tix are $40; with overnight camping $50.
Valentine’s Music Hall in Albany is loading up on a batch of very interesting upcoming shows for the fall, including Dry River Canyon and Bella’s Bartok at 8pm on Thursday, September 15; These United States at 8pm on Monday, September 19; Drag the River and Lenny Lashley at 8pm on Monday, September 26; the Silos with Spottiswoode & His Enemies at 8pm on Saturday, October 15 (DOUBLE WHOA!); Hayes Carll at 8pm on Tuesday, November 1; and Shonen Knife at 8pm on Sunday, November 20.
The Bearsville Theater in Woodstock welcomes back the Mahavishnu Orchestra tribute band, Mahavishnu Project, performing “Birds of Fire,” in its entirety. With special guest Jesse Gress. Showtime is 8pm on Saturday, September 17, and tix are $20.
The Duke & the King – featuring Simone Felice, formerly of the Felice Brothers – take over the Byrdcliffe Barn in Woodstock at 9pm on Friday, August 5, celebrating the release of their new, self-titled album. General admission tix are $20.
Postponed: Originally slated for Friday, August 5, Bob Weir’s sold out solo acoustic concert at the Colonial Theatre in Pittsfield has been postponed due to “unforeseen circumstances.” No new date for the show has been announced yet. Call the Colonial box office for further (or should that be “furthur”?) details at 413-997-4444.
Sold out: Meanwhile, in other Bob Weir news, his solo acoustic concert at the Bearsville Theater in Woodstock on Saturday, September 2 is now officially sold out. No surprise there … Also at Bearsville, the concert by Dweezil Zappa Plays Zappa (with special guests Flo & Eddie) on Thursday evening is sold out, too.
Ch-ch-ch-changes: Davy Jones, Micky Dolenz and Peter Tork and the Monkees’ 45th anniversary tour-stop in Albany has moved from the Times Union Center to the Palace Theatre at 7:30pm on Friday, September 9. If you already have tix, you must exchange them for new ones.
