CLASSICAL MUSIC: Janos Balazs @ the College of St. Rose’s Massry Center, Albany. The 22-year-old Hungarian pianist focuses on the music of Chopin in his American premiere performance. 7:30pm. $20.
THEATER: “A Midsummer’s Night Dream” @ Williams College’s ’62 Center, Williamstown. Synetic Theater combines classical elements of drama, movement, dance, mime and music into a unique brand of physical theater, as they conjure up a wordless production of a favorite Shakespeare comedy. 8pm. $10.
ARTS WALK: Art Night Schenectady @ various locations, Schenectady. The Electric City’s monthly arts walk is back with plenty of free music and visual art to soak up. Perhaps Obama should stick around… 5pm. FREE.
MUSIC: The Wiyos @ Caffe Lena, Saratoga Springs. The exuberant acoustic-roots combo is back in support of their new album, Live, Vol. 1,” which features such tunes as “Uncork the Whiskey” and “Let’s Get Drunk Again.” With the Honey Dewdrops. 8pm. $18 in advance; $20 at the door.
MUSIC: David Sancious @ the Bearsville Theater, Woodstock. The former keyboardist in Springsteen’s E Street Band, Sancious teams up with percussionist Joe Bonadio and special guests. Hallow Dog opens the show. 9pm. $15.
THEATER ON FILM: “Fela!” @ Time + Space Limited, Hudson. The Tony Award-winning musical comes direct from the National Theatre of London with Sahr Ngaujah in the title role. 8pm. $22; under 12 $15.
DANCE: Ellen Sinopoli Dance Company @ The Egg, Albany. Celebrating their 20th anniversary, ESDC presents a pair of premieres – “A Gathering in Red, Departing” featuring live music by violinist-composer Cornelius Dufallo and “Blue(s)” featuring the recorded music of Leroy Jenkins, Eric Bibb, Otis Taylor, Michelle Shocked and Muddy Waters. 8pm. $24; seniors $20; children $12. With a pre-show talk at 7:15pm.
MUSIC: Tom McWatters & the Philo Bedoe Band @ Dinosaur Bar-B-Que, Troy. Performing tunes from McWatters’ latest CD, “A Beast Among the Civilized.” 10pm. FREE.
MUSIC: Sgt. Dunbar & the Hobo Banned @ Valentine’s Music Hall, Albany. The always charming and passionate Sgt. Dunbar marches into Valentine’s with fellow local favorites the Red Lions and Littlefoot, as well as Boston’s Glenn Yoder. 8pm. $5.
THEATER: “Inherit the Wind” @ the Sand Lake Center for the Arts, Averill Park. The Circle Theatre Players present the classic American law drama with Albany Law School professor Mary Lynch in the role of the defense counsel, Mary Drummond. 8pm. $16. (Through Sunday, January 30)
