Nao Bustamante Heads to MoMA

Nao BustamanteNao Bustamante didn’t win the art competition last summer on cable channel Bravo’s “reality” TV show, “Work of Art: The Next Great Artist.”

But she is getting a night of her own at NYC’s Museum of Modern Art, “An Evening With Nao Bustamante,” and that sure ain’t a bad consolation prize.

Nao Bustamante – Troy artist and associate professor of New Media and Live Art at RPI – will present a performance/lecture that includes selections of her performance-based video works at MoMA’s Roy and Niuta Titus Theater 2 at 7pm on Monday, February 28.

The evening is part of the museum’s Documentary Fortnight festival, as well as the Modern Mondays series.

In the meantime, Bustamante’s work is also featured in the group art exhibition with the rather unweildy name of “Readykeulous: The Hurtful Healer: The Correspondance Issue” at Invisible-Exports in NYC. Other artists whose work is featured in the show include Carolee Schneeman, David Wojnarowicz, Genesis Breyer P-Orridge, Kara Walker, Kathleen Hanna, Kathy Acker, Bernadette Mayer and others. The exhibition – which opens on Friday with a reception from 6-8pm – remains on view through Sunday, February 13.
