Think Small, Think Art

Yes, it’s that time of year again. The time of year when galleries have shows of small, affordable works to buy as gifts (or keep for yourself). Here’s a short list of some of the shows that caught our eye:

99 Cents and Up: Art in the Age of Mechanical Reproduction @ MCLA Gallery 51, North Adams. Photographs, photocopies, digital media, jewelry, pottery, and a variety of printing methods will all be available for purchase between 99 cents and 99 dollars.

Featured artists include: John Breiner, Marcel Bova, Jessica Conzo, Howard Cruse, Andy Davis, Jay Elling, Dan Field, Joshua Field, Claire Fox, Mario Guzman, Richard Harrington, Sarah Haze, Denis Kitchen, Henry Klein, Erin Ko, Melissa Lillie, Michael McKay, Michael McCarthy, Jamie Mohr, Melanie Mowinski, Mark Mulherrin, Zach Noel, Liz Nofziger, Danny O, Tristan Perich, Monika Pizzichemi, Rich Remsberg, Ben Ripley, Gregory Scheckler, Karin Stack, Colleen Surprise Jones, Voisey, Joshua Vrysen, Yescka, Angela Zammarelli, and more. (Through December 30)

Eleventh Annual 5 by 7 Show @ Kleinert/James Art Center, Woodstock. This highly popular exhibition will feature over 200 original 5 inch by 7 inch works by prominent artists living in and around the Hudson Valley area and beyond. Each piece sells for $100 and is anonymous until after purchase. From December 19-31, all unsold works will be priced at $50. All proceeds support the Woodstock Byrdcliffe Guild’s exhibition programs and events. (Through December 31)

Small Works @ Leslie Ferrin Gallery, Pittsfield. A group show of affordable small art and sculpture featuring works by Christa Assad, Jessica Calderwood, Molly Hatch, Maggie Mailer, Debi Pendel, Ven Voisey, Greg Scheckler, Kurt Weiser, Joseph Wheaton and others.

Also at Ferrin Gallery, Print Fair North / West features an exhibition of prints by Lillianna Periera, Liz Chalfin and Annie Bissett along with racks of prints for sale by Zea Mays Printmaking artist members. All prints are original, hand pulled works of art including etchings, woodcuts, monoprints and more. (Through January 1)

UAG Marketplace @ Upstate Artists Guild, Albany. Featured artist: Erik Laffer, plus works by Tom d’Ambrose, Jorge Diaz, Robyn Diaz, Ketura Khai, Radha Krishnan, Thomasa Dwyer Nielsen, Natalie Paquette, Rebecca Schoonmaker and Nina Stanley. (Through December 23)

Dreams and Vessels @ NAACA Gallery, North Adams. A large group show by this coop gallery, as well as a large selection of gift items. Each Thursday of December, the gallery along with other Main Street, Eagle Street and Holden Street merchants will feature special events, as part of “Hometown Holidays” and will stay open until 8 pm. (Through January 24)
