THEATER: Dynamic Characters, Dramatic Situations: Original Play Festival Competition (Part A) @ the Sand Lake Center for the Arts, Averill Park. The Circle Theater Players present seven original one-act plays. 7:30pm. $10.

FILM: Au Hasard Balthazar @ Page Hall, UAlbany. Robert Bresson’s extraordinary tale of an all-suffering donkey and his series of owners is a masterpiece of visual storytelling. 1966, 95 minutes, b/w, in French and Latin with English subtitles. 7:30pm. FREE.

MUSIC: The Spampinato Brothers @ the Bearsville Theater, Woodstock. They rattled the rafters at the Ale House in Troy just a couple of weeks ago. Now Joey and Johnny Spampinato and the rest of the band are takin’ over Woodstock in support of their debut CD, “Pie in the Sky.” 9pm. $20 in advance; $25 at the door.
THEATER: “A Christmas Carol” @ Russell Sage College’s Schacht Fine Arts Center, Troy. It’s opening day for what could be the swansong for the New York State Theatre Institute. 10am. $22; students & seniors $18; children $12.
MUSIC: The Dave Bennett Septet @ the Clark Art Institute, Williamstown. Clarinetist Dave Bennett and his band pay tribute to the music of Benny Goodman. The concert is held in conjunction with the Williamstown Holiday Walk, so expect some swingin’ holiday songs, too. 8pm. $30.
MUSIC: The Symphonic Winds and Opus Zero Band @ Williams College’s Chapin Hall, Williamstown. Performing New England premieres of James Mobberley’s “Ascension” and Derek Charke’s “Falling from Cloudless Skies” as well as two movements from Bruno Mantovani’s “Le Sette Chiese,” selections from Ted Hearne’s “Katrina Ballads.” 8pm.
