MUSIC: Erin McKeown @ The Linda, Albany. Singer-songwriter McKeown opened for Ani DiFranco at a sold-out concert at Skidmore’s Zankel Music Hall. Now she moves up to the headlining slot at The Linda. With winterpills’ Philip Price and Flora Reed opening the show in support of their new CD, “Tuxedo of Ashes.” 8pm. $20.
THEATER: Dynamic Characters, Dramatic Situations: Original Play Festival Competition (Part B) @ the Sand Lake Center for the Arts, Averill Park. The Circle Theater Players present seven original one-act plays. 7:30pm. $10.
LECTURE: “A Writer Reading, A Reader Writing” @ Reem and Kayden Center, Bard College, Annendale on Hudson. Somali novelist Nurrudin Farah speaks as part of Norman Manea’s “Contemporary Masters Series,” focusing this fall on “Islam and Modernity.” 7-9pm. FREE.

ARTIST RECEPTION: “99 Cents & Up: Art in the Age of Mechanical Reproduction” @ MCLA Gallery 51, North Adams. A group show of affordable artworks priced between 99 cents and $99.99. 5-7pm. FREE. (Exhibit continues through January 2).
FILM: The Kids Are All Right @ Schenectady Public Library. Starring Julianne Moore, Annette Bening and Mia Wasikowska, this 2010 film follows two teenaged children as they seek out their biological father and introduce him into the family life that their two mothers have built for them. 7pm. FREE.
ARTS WALK: Victorian Streetwalk @ Downtown Saratoga Springs. Broadway in downtown Saratoga will be closed to traffic as 48 different sites offer entertainment, food, music, Santa and Mrs. Claus, “Toys for Tots” and much more. CDTA will be providing free transportation from 4:30-10:30pm for all regular routes. 5-10pm. FREE
